Heidi Murphy BEM FRSA
Heidi is a Scottish theatre maker, producer and community engagement consultant whose practice is focused around co-designing work, specifically with young people. She was awarded a British Empire Medal in the 2020 New Years Honours for Services to Education and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
As a community engagement consultant, my work specialises around ethical participatory development. In short, I help organisations make sure they’re working fairly, transparently and allowing for voices to be heard. I work across the cultural sector and love learning about new projects and supporting great people with great ideas.
I sit on a number of governance boards, ranging from community centres to National Portfolio Organisations (NPOs), and am currently working on my MSc in participatory public policy design.
My practice is borne from the skills I've developed as an educator and as an artist. I’ve had a lot of jobs over the years. From a stint in the hotel industry that ended up in a lock in protest following much resisted sale of a hotel to a major chain; to assistant manager at a cabaret bar; via interfaith youth worker, working as an administrator at the job centre, teacher of European Citizenship, and accidental early years development worker for a parish council.
As a theatre maker my work has been performed across the UK, including by Birmingham REP, at the RSC, by Lyric Hammersmith and at The Burns Birthplace Museum.
